Well my ideas got voted down by the kids...Someone said my coop looks like a pyramid(A frame). So I went with an Egyptian theme. All I have left name wise is Cleopatra...She's adopted me as her momma. Then the kids have named the others, Doctor and Seuss are the ducklings. The other chicks are now name Captain, Sergeant and Musketeer. likely to change tomorrow
Well 4 of our 6 were named immediately by my sons.
Giraffe laugh (production red that had the longest neck) can you tell ds is 6
Kit kat (maran mix) named by 6 year old son
Crackle (speckled sussex) named by 13 year old son who just got the app. crackle on his ipod
Jr. (EE) named by 13 year old son who is called JR.
Dh and I get to name the other 2 since dd is only 2 and has few words.
I feel like I always hear about people who give their birds really generic names (not that there's anything wrong with that!) But I think it's nice to throw a little spice in there!
We have had a lot of strangely (to me anyway) named chickens.
Reggie- The roo that started my love of chickens. He is no longer with us. Lost his life defending the hens and chicks.
Henny Penny- named by my mom
No linger with us.
Mini Pearl- Named after the singer, by my mom. No longer with us.
Fox- Named by me for her color.
Cream- again me for her color
Honey- by me because she's me favorite and is really sweet.
Spot- Sadly no longer with us. He was from Reggie and Henny. He was white with random red and black feathers that looked like spots. Named by my dad.
RJ- Spots brother. Also no longer with us. Named by me.
Regg- Named by me. Last hatch from Reggie and Henny.
Peppy- Named by my mom because he was from Mexico. No longer with us.
My chickens are: Dinero, for his gold color. Raven, for his black color. Barroca (I have no idea where my mom pulled that name from, but she says it is her Spanish/English mix name...
). Perch, because she loves to perch on my hand. And Lady, our first chicken.
Oh, and can't forget the new babies!! I have seven new ones and only 4 have names
, They are: Precious, Lovey, Dovey, and Davida. My mom thought of Lovey and Dovey because they are the same breed and I had already named Dovey "Lovey Dovey". So, now he/she shares the name!!
I also name mine in groups. We've had the "Beaners" Mocha, Cocoa, Coffee, Jelly and then we have the "Flavors" Nugget, Hot Wing, BBQ, Strips, Mild Wing, Rotisserie our new EE babies are "Dances" Hokey Pokey, Polka, Salsa, Tango, Soulja Gurl, Cotton Eyed Jo and our new bantams are "Candy Bars" Kit Kat, Reese's, Hershey, Butterfinger, Almond Joy, Milky Way
Umm... I just named all of mine with funky names that popped into my head for no reason, for their personality, or for coloring... Pretty random names actually!
Just a few of the hens:
Eunice (aka Mamma Hen)
Agatha (Aggie, for short)
Sunny (She looks like she has a sun around her neck)
Helga (just because I felt like it)
Beatrice (Bee for short)
Fiona (because I watched a chick flick in which the step-mom was really mean... her name was Fiona, and my girl was a brat when in the nest box)
Faithy (this is still sometimes used but, she had a rough start so she got this name anyways)
Eagle (not a person name, but for her coloring, she looks just like a Golden Eagle)
Princess (My little cousin named her)
Lucy (another one of my cousins names, yet on of the better ones!)
There is a lot more girls, but I just know them by their faces, so I can't think of them all right now...
I try to name the boys with "R" names
Roosters:
Roody (R.I.P.)
Remington (Remi for short)
Reggie (gone to a new home)
Rawley (Young buck who needs to learn some manners)
Rome (gone to a new home)
and a few others that I can't remember right now, they went to new homes awhile ago...
Oh, how could I forget?! My beloved cockeral, Tootsie! Don't worry, I swear, I thought it was a girl! And that name is short for Toot Sweet! But, by the time I figured out that it was boy.... It was too late to switch it! LOL
I think that when I get my Wyandottes, I am going to go with a theme... Now just to figure out which theme!
My niece and her husband (from TN) got their first batch of pullets. On their coop they are going to put a sign " The Dixie Chicks". They have named them all female country singers. I thought that was a wonderful theme idea. I myself love the Waltons series from long ago and have named my chicks after them....Olivia, Ester, Mary Ellen, Erin, Elizabeth, Corabeth, Ike, John, Zeb........etc.
I would have loved to have come up with some funky names for our 11 hens, but my girls had all the names picked out...names typical of a 8 and 9 year old LOL
Yoko - lightest one
Dinner - Darkest one
the rest I cannot tell apart yet
Eggy
Cluck
Flick
Flack
