How do you nicely tell someone.....

Tell her you are really looking for something darker/lighter? Or looking for a buck that has (a longer nose, bigger feet, etc.) that will improve what your female bunny is lacking. That's what breeding is all about, right?

I'm sorry, I can't take him.

You don't need to explain - explanations, and the feeling that there's a need to give them, is what starts most of the problems.

In a pinch, I always use the Significant Other excuse. 'My husband said no'.

'My husband says no' to an incredibly broad set of possibilities.

"no, but thank you for showing me your buck but it is not what I had in mind."

Love the hubby's NO excuses!

I like this one but I think they would still argue about whatever was said as the reason why you did not want the buck.

Good luck!

I'm the same way, can't lie because I won't remember it. I have learned to be a bit more diplomatic. Therefore, I concur with the "I just don't feel he would nick well with my does", is NOT a lie----yet not as nasty as "Your buck is lousy". This will also serve you if you end up not wanting to sell her any of your stock "I just don't think my doe/buck will nick with your lines".

Tell her Ken put a limit on you, and siad you'd have to eat all the extras.

You could always claim the colourings are wrong, or that the buck is too big/small for your doe.

Could you possibly say that you will loan the buck and have a friend who is a judge comment on his standard,
before you mate him. This way you can hand him back in a nice way and say that you was advised for whatever reason
that it would be a bad idea to breed from him.

Good'luck
