How do you nicely tell someone.....

here is something to throw around for thoughts only.......

Have you considered using a buck that IS related? I specifically asked this good lionhead breeder whether she breeds back to relatives at all......and she said absolutely.

The issue with "inbreeding" or "linebreeding" or whatever you want to call it......it can double the traits. This can work poorly if its a bad trait, or well if its a good trait.

If your doe is really that awesome.......what about using a related buck?

Most common breeds I've seen at shows: Lops, Rex, Netherland Dwarf, Californian, Flemish Giants

Harlequin are neat looking. I *love* the checkered giants, but have heard some poor things about their temperaments, plus I don't have the cage space. Dwarf Hotots are neat too.

I like the American Sable, neat looking rabbits. Rhinelanders are neat too. But not so common.

Here is what we have: Broken Chestnut buck, ruby eyed white doe and the fawn doe, none related within 1 generation. The bucks grandmother is the great grandmother to our chestnut agouti buck kit we are keeping. I have heard it is best to have one generation removed to eliminate the poor qualities coming back. So that is two bucks that can be bred to her, but only 1 that can be bred to the REW. A new buck for her is what I am looking for.

Ken likes himilayans but to me they all look alike. I have to keep searching for one that is right for us. We settled on the French's pretty easily for alot of reasons. The main one is they are tri-purpose: Show, wool, meat.

Hi Debi, just found this thread. I used to breed Mini-Rex bunnies. Loved them! But even though some of mine had papers and were gorgeous, I never tried to show them. Why? Because I thought only kids were allowed to show rabbits. Maybe that is just at fairs? I have never heard of an open show where adults could show their rabbits. But there must be, after reading this thread. Do you know where I might find a listing of rabbit shows near me (Maryland) where adults can show their buns? I miss my Mini-Rex, they are sooooo velvety soft, shiny and come in so many cool colors. I had Castor, Broken Castor (my fave), Blue, Opal, and Black/White (mostly black). I would love to find a Mini-Rex bunny with blue eyes!

I have to say the information is sounding much more normal to me now than when we FIRST got the buns. Throwing kits, tight bodies, nice nails, beautiful heads all have new meaning to me.
