How do you prevent frostbite in the winter?

I use bag balm on my roo's and it works great. I just put it on their combs and waddles and they do just fine. It also helps if their combs have already turned purple. (Makes them nice and soft too

I haven't had any problems with frostbite. My coop is very well insulated and I keep a red heat lamp on 24/7 on those really really cold nights. So far so good....

I cannot imagine trying to put ointment on them. I think they would go nuts. LOL
 
They don't really mind it, but it's easier if one person holds the bird so the other has both hands free. Especially with the big roos.
