click that "start conversation" link and youre good to go!

It might depend n which device you are using but for me on a computer I go to the "Inbox" button top right and click on it. Then I hit the "start a conversation" tab.

Private messages are now called conversation’s. You can start one by clicking on your inbox and using the “start a new conversation” type their username in.

Or by clicking on a members name and clicking “start a conversation’ as below ~

Thanks to everyone for their reply. I have never tried to pm someone before.
I like the method of selecting the person's name first so I am sure he is the one getting it.
I am putting up an electric fence and wanted to ask Howard E a question.

What device do you use? I can't send messages from my phone either, but on my computer, I press "Inbox" and go to "Start a conversation" on my laptop on my computer. It's pretty simple here. But does anyone know if there is an auto reply messages function? That would probably be very helpful to a lot of people.
