How do you pronounce Campine?

I'm not sure how it was intended to be pronounced, but if I saw that word anywhere, I'd say "CAM-pinn", emphasis on the first syllable. However, being a proper name of a breed, it would be whatever the intention was, which is probably cam-PEEN.

Awww, SpeckledHen, you're the only one disagreeing--maybe we need to try to figure out d'uccle or marans or one of the other ones that always end up with more possible pronunciations than the number of people voicing opinions

(Just kidding--it really does not look like it should be cam-peen, does it? Maybe someone will come up with came-pine

It was named after a city in Belgium, right? Then, maybe someone who speaks the language can enlighten us! I don't know how the breed is pronounced, but if I just saw that word standing alone, not knowing what it was, I'd have said "CAM-pinn". Avid reader here, but proper names are not regular words. Otherwise, Brett FAVRE wouldn't pronounce his name "FARVE", LOL.

Dunno why I "knew" it was Cam-PEEN when I didn't know (until recently) that leghorn was pronounced "leggern."
*grumble*

Somebody looked at me real funny and said, "A what?"

Well, heck - the danged cartoon chicken was Foghorn Leghorn! Not Foggern Leggern!

You may return to your regular programme. Sorry.
