how do you pronounce "Marans"?

If pronounced like the French, the S is silent, Ma-rahn

In the USA, most pronounce it Ma-rans

JMHO, please correct me David if my French has gone totally south!

Debbi, that is correct.

Since the Maran breed originated in France and named after a location there (Marans, France... google-map it), it SHOULD be said with a french accent. Kinda like how names don't REALLY have a translation, because they are proper nouns.

Thus saying it with a french accent, the S is silent and it is pronounced "Mah-RAHN".

Now can someone tell me how you all say Cochin and Wyandotte?

I say those "COE-shun" and "WHY-an-dote".

Technically correct but given where I live, I might get hung or shot if I said it like that. LOL

And don't forget to pronounce the S! Marans is still singular.

🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣

The ‘S’ is silent and it is actually pronounced more like this (in fench)

Mah-gro

the ‘gro’ is the hard part, as you need to ‘roll’ the R and sounds guttural, thus the G is an ‘almost’ sound before the R.

The ‘ns’ at the end is basically silent.

Challenging language french 😉

I will continue to pronounce it “Here birdie birdie”
