Aus-tra-LOP

Or

Aus-tra-LORP?

Just curious...I've heard it both ways....

That's what I've always thought...I say, AUSTRA-LORP, but my MIL says, AUSTRA-LOP. I was talking to someone on the phone tonight and he says it that way, too!

It's kind of like the same argument over how to pronounce d'Uccle. My neighbors across the street pronounce it dee-uckle. I thought to myself when I first heard the breed name spoken by them that they had to be mispronouncing it since it's a French breed, and the French language tends to leave off the last syllable, and it's spoken beautifully. I mean what other language can make the word toilet sound pretty? Lol! But from what I have recently heard, it's pronounced more like doo clay, and that sounds closer to how I would imagine it being said, so that's how we pronounce it. As for Australorp, I have to agree with those that say: There's an R in there, use it. It is definitely LORP.
