i would say use the R, definately, its not silent so use it! lol but then again its kinda like the whole po-tay-o, po-tat-o thing, or to-may-to- to-mat-o thing, or soda vs pop, or car-mel car-a-mel, or ket-chup cat-sup, or... well you get the point, it depends on where you live, different people pronounce things differently but personally i would use the R, but thats just me...

I say it with the R. I think the name is short for Australian Orptington isnt it? So, it would be like saying orpington/orp without the R lol.

AUSTRALian ORPington. Australorp. Tiramisu is correct. I had Australorps for about 20 years before I found out it was short for Australian Orpington. LOL. I think sometimes when people drop "R's" it is because of their accent- like a lot of people from the NE will drop the "r", especially like if it is an "ar" combination. It seems like I have heard a lot of mid westerners (and southerners) do it too if they have a thick drawl.

So can I ask how to pronounce Lakenvelder? At first I was pronouncing it Lake-n-velder, but then I bought a hen off of a lady that pronounce it Lack-n-velder.

My mother is from Savannah, so I have lots of relatives to go by. A final "r" is always silent, particularly if it's in a name. Those harvested "r's" don't go to waste; they are tacked onto the ends of words that everyone else pronounce with a final vowel sound. So Aunt Esta lives in Atlanter!

Australorp, D'uccle, Lakenvelder? Yeah, them things!
