Im trying to get to know people here and am wondering how everyone raises their duckies!

Do you raise them as cherished pets? Or Do you raise them as farm birds? or inbetween?

I have been raising mine as pets. They now have a blanket, and a stuffed animal in their brooder (I FINALLY got them to tollerate it LOL). They are cuddled with every day, and I KNOW I will be upset when its time for them to leave the brooder and go into the bird house.

Mine are raised as pets....we love them and kiss them and squeeze them everyday

They are not real keen on the love but they tolerate it...they are about three weeks old maybe a little more...not sure how old they were when the feed store got them...they are almost white now with a little yellow still on them. They are too cute!!!!!

Mine are pets. When I first started out, I got two ducklings but one died and I could never find anyone selling more to get him a companion. So he lived in a modified bird cage next to my bed, with a stuffed animal as company. I cuddled him all the time. Now he's about a month old and lives outside in the shed but I still cuddle with him every day. He's not really fond of being picked up but likes to be cuddled once I have a hold of him, and he follows me around everywhere I go.

I just got two more ducklings a few days ago and they are currently living in the same bird cage next to my bed. They'll be raised as pets as well. I'll be spending a lot of one on one time with them too so they don't bond JUST with each other.

I have 2 ducklings and they are house pets. They get cuddled with everyday and live inside and since i live in an appartment they also wear duck diapers lol. They have gotten really use to getting all the constant attention and seem to really love it. They just really hate being picked up.

I have kept my 3 buff drakes and 1 hen on my 2 ponds for the last 3 years. I'd just catch them once the pond froze thick enough to walk on and shut them up until it thawed. A few weeks ago I got 2 more hens 1 buff and one I'm not sure of. Well the 3 drakes all go after one of the girls at the same time so I am gonna pair them up in a coup I am building where each pair will have its own run. Hopefully they will knock that stuff off after awhile that way so I can let them free range during the day.

I have some that are pets and then I have a few that I raise to just have around for weeding and bugs...the ones i would NEVER get rid of are the very first geese I got, Ironman and Hulk, plus Hulks' girlfriend, Myst. The three of them are 4 years old now and I got them when they were a week old. My welsh harlequins are my pets. My turkeys are my pets, everyone in my family loves them lol. Most of my chickens are special to me in some way, I dont think there are any of them that I would get rid of. The other geese I have tho are just kinda there and they do their job weeding and eating bugs. Most of my more important birds stay in my bird run (all together) and they do great. I buy them bread as a treat which they get every now and then. So I guess most of my birds are my pets

Mine are somewhere in-between, I don't cuddle mine all the time but they do get held and get attention. When they get big they like to follow me around. I sing in the coop and give out treats and at some point I have to chose some to be culled from the flock. So far I am really not great at the culling part. I had one duck that was a house duck for a few months as she burgher leg- Lucky is still not 100% but she is back with the ducks and giving me eggs.
