I say "are" and I was raised in Kentucky

When we moved to PA, the Yankees say "ow-er"

Here in VA the locals pronounce our "air" I can always tell when I'm talking to someone who was raised in this area because they talk about "air hoose" (our house)

I was only teasing about the Yankee part. LoL But I am curious also as to how the word, our, is pronounced in different areas.

When I was in Iowa, I heard the word creek called a, crick. I say, creek with a long e not a short, i.

That is because "creek" is the sound you hear when you step on a loose floorboard. Crick is you swim in on hot summer days.

I pronounce it "hour." But most folks where I grew up say it as "are." Working with kids, I go by the dictionary pronunciation. But I'll still have kids write "That is are dog." Then I'll go back and say, "You mean 'our' dog. Look, they are different (and will show them the two words side by side); are is a verb." And they'll usually look at me like I'm the Charlie Brown teacher...lol. But it's just a regional thing... I guess I've always thought it was more country vs city thing????

Are you one of those people that have the 3 wise men dressed as firemen in the nativity scene in front of your house? After all, everybody knows that the 3 wise men came from a far.

In NC, y'all is always the plural of you. all y'all is still plural but emphasizing each person in a group.

Example: All of y'all on this forum are crazy. Meaning each and everyone of you.

Hello y'all. Meaning hello to a group of people.

Both are plural in NC, but one is directed more specifically at several individuals in a group. (I hope that made sense)

I always get annoyed when actors try speaking with a fake southern accent but call one person, y'all. But maybe they do in some parts of the country.

I have never heard anyone say youins but that doesn't mean that it isn't said somewhere.
