How do you store your poultry feed?

I store mine in a 5o pound metal bucket with a good cover. I have never had a problem yet.

Once the food is in the coop you don't have to worry about mice...chickens are quite quick:sick  they are like  it moved! it must want to be eaten :drool :cd
:gig

Sounds just like my chickens! They love torturing small critters.. :sick

Okay.. so if you can't keep the feeds in the bags until they are opened, how the heck are you supposed to make room for all that feed? I go through 700 pounds of feed a month. I buy it biweekly.. :/

We use the black trash cans we buy at the local dollar general for about $13. Each one holds 100 pounds of feed. I have two, right now. One has Producers Pride 13% for my 2 hooved 4 legged pastures ornaments, and the other has 50/50 Flock Raiser Crumbles and Layena Pellets. They work great, the plastic is nice and thick. Holds well together. And even with so much feed the wheels still work. xD Actually need to get about 2 or 3 more.
Exactly what we do.

I definitely keep mine in the small metal trash cans that have a lid on it.
I can fit a 50 lb. bag of feed in it at once.
I went through a half dozen plastic kitty litter buckets before I got fed up with the mice and rats eating through the lids.
As far as deterrents, moth balls which may be too strong and toxic or peppermint oil which may be better tolerated by people.

I am using 5 gal paint buckets(clean out first) but today I got a gift from the chicken gods. As I was cleaning the tree up that fell on the truck from hurricane cathy I noticed this big blue barrel down the yard a ways. So I go pick it up and here it is all cleaned out with a locking lid. The chick angel on my left shoulder said " here's for you and all your hard work". The chick on my right shoulder said" go door to door and ask the neighbors" What would you all do????

Oh, go door to door. Trust me, its better than having the neighbor show up at your house and recognize the barrell. It's awkward!!

Nice score!

well.. er.. i keep the majority of my feed in my front hall...

Yes, in my house, i have all the duck/chicken feed, horse feed in there, i have a huge plastic bin that holds over 60lbs of feed that keeps the flock raiser and 90lb bag of scratch just sits on the floor in it's grain sack...

The oyster shell and DE are in the garage, i use a small bucket and a cleaned out litter plastic container(similar to what you have only smaller) to haul the feed out daily.

So to end this story, i have made a feed room in my house, i have no shame.
