I Use The "under Cabinet Flourescent Lights" They Are Small Flourescent Fixture-- About 12inches Long And 1-2 Inches Wide. They Are Mounted On The Inside Of The Roof In The Above Ground Pen And Plugged In A Single Timer==== The Timer Is The Standard Plug Into The Socket And It In Turn Has An Outlet That The Timed Device Is Plugged Into--- Plug An Extension Cord Into The Timer, Run The Cord Out To My Quail Condo And Smaller Short Cords From There To The Individual Lights. The Small Flourescent Lights Work Fine And Cost The Least To Run. The Quail Dont Need Intense Light, Just Enough To Say... Read A Newspaper By.... So On 1 Side Of The Quail Condo Where All My "honeymoon" Suites Are I Rigged 2 Lights, The Other Side Is Brooder And Community Pens--- 1 Light There For The Community Pens And The Brooder Usually Has A Heat Light In It--- In This Case Its A White Heat Light Not Red So There's Plenty Of Light Out There. Also I Get The Lights From The Little Closeout Stores(big Lots) So They're Cheap! Just Set The Timer To Turn Them On At 5:30pm And They Run Until About 1:30- 2:00 Am Which Is More Than 14hrs Of Light During The Winter. They're Also Handy Because Many Times I Cant Get Home In Time To Feed Before Dark--- So I Have Lights Out There To Feed By As Well!
I Tried The Lil Solar Landscape Lights--- They Didnt Do Much For Us... But My Birds Are Up Off The Ground And We Are In Florida--- Our Daylight, No Matter How Short During The Winter, Is Alot More Intense Here Than Most Parts Of The Country, So My Birds Are Used To More Bright Light--- The Flourescents Work Great And Last A Very Long Time Too
