How do you tell EE from true Ameraucana?

I bought EEs from MPC, so I know that's what I have (mine are only a few weeks old), but I am just wondering if someone can post pics of the two or describe the physical differences to me (I know EEs are a cross). I am curious and want to learn more!

My EEs have big cheek tufts, which I think is a trait similar to Ameraucanas and Auracanas? Is that right? Working on learning as much as I can.

This thread may help you out. One big way to tell is just plain who you got it from - Hatchery? Feed store? Breeder who spells the name wrong? - Those are all Easter Eggers.

Another thing, as mentioned in the thread - Is leg color and feather color. Ameraucanas only come in 8 colors - Blue, Black, White, Buff, Brown-Red, Wheaten, Blue Wheaten, and Silver. They should have a full set of beard and muffs, and slate legs. Black and Blue are allowed black legs - But green, yellow, pink - Any other color indicates an Easter Egger. Also, Ameraucanas should only have pea combs.

Araucanas are also not sold by anyone but a reputable breeder. They are very hard to find, and should in most cases be rumpless and have distinctive ear tufts coming out the sides of their faces, but no beard. They only come in 5 APA recognized colors, but there are more. They include Black. White, Black Breasted Red, Golden Duckwing, and Silver Duckwing.

Also, most Easter Eggers usually come in weird colors like a partridge type in hens, a splashy tri-color or mock-wheaten color in roosters, and a couple other odd colors like blue-buff and red pyle.

That is very helpful - thank you! I was looking at the pictures and guessing at some of the things you listed but its nice to have a real list

Is it also true that slate legs usually mean blue eggs? Even from an EE? I'm anxiously waiting and hoping to see if maybe I will get blue eggs from my EEs

Leg color has nothing to do with egg color . It seems the allee for blue eggs is near that of the one for pea combs , but even that is not a guarantee for the blue egg trait as many other breeds also have pea combs , and one European breed [ the cream legbar ] has been developed with single combs and lay blue eggs .
