How do you tell if an egg is fresh?

Found a new clutch of eggs in my hen house tonight in a new spot. All eggs were warm from hen sitting on them. Is is possible to "float" an egg to see if it is still fresh?

Fresh eggs sink, very old eggs rise to the surface.

so as long as they stay on the bottom of the sink, they are still fresh? Thanks for the advice...
