how do you tell wich hen is laying

I have 11 pullets and I'm pretty sure 8 of them are laying now. I've been lucky enough to catch a couple in the nest boxes just as they are laying eggs. That's the only way I can tell who is laying which eggs. Having EE's helps too.

One of my dingbat EE's flipped the loose plastic nest box over herself and was trapped in it for an hour or so...she laid an egg while she was in there!!

She's never been the brightest bulb in the box!

My Golden Comets lay the darkest brown eggs, altho all 4 of them are different shades of brown. My three mature EE's are laying a blue, green and pink egg and I've caught two of them laying so by process of elimination, I figured all of them out. I think I got the first egg from my Buff Orp today. It was paler brown than my GC's eggs, and it was laid on the floor (all the rest lay in the nest boxes without fail) and it had a rough shell (all the others are smooth now). It also had a little bit of blood on the outside of the shell (that happened with most of my pullets on their first egg). So all 8 of my mature pullets are laying now...I have three younger ones who should be laying any time now. The younger three are in a separate coop, so they should be easy. Two black sex-links and one EE.

If you can place your index finger and middle finger between the pelvic bone they are laying, non layers the pelvic bone is much closer together.

The redness of the comb is also a good indicator.
