What do you use for Taenia in your laying hens...and how long to you withdraw eggs from sale?

My daughter works at a vet office and took one of our hens in for some practice work for them.

They discovered no mites (yeah) or other diseases, but there was evidence of Taenia (tapeworm that infects chickens) in the fecal sample, which didn't surprise me as this hen has been very thin (the reason she was chosen). I do have a couple of other hens that are thinnish as well....other than being thin, they appear in good health.

Apparently there is no sanctioned US treatment for Taenia in chickens, so it would be illegal for me to sell eggs from hens who are being treated by anything for Taenia. (I'm not a large scale farmer here... I just sell some of my excess eggs to a couple of friends to help cover my feed costs.)

Thanks

Tapeworms in chickens are difficult to get rid of and may require several treatments using a higher dosage of wormer. You'll want to treat all your chickens. Purchase valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer from Jefferslivestock.com or your feed store. Administer orally undiluted using a syringe without a needle.
Once you receive the valbazen, withhold feed from your chickens for 24 hours. Ensure they have water to drink. Once the 24 hours is up, dose each one of your birds with 1cc valbazen. Provide your birds feed 3 hours after dosing. Wait 4 days, withhold their feed again for 24 hours and redose them 1cc valbazen. Feed them in 3 hours like before. Repeat this procedure again one more time if you continue to see "rice" looking tapeworm segments in feces.
Another wormer used to treat tapeworms is Zimectrin Gold equine wormer. It is an orange paste that can be given orally to chickens. Withhold feed for 24 hours. Dosage is a "pea" size amount given orally to each chicken. Withhold feed 24 hours and redose again in 10 days. Do NOT overdose with this product. The chickens will wipe their beaks after dosing them, this is normal.
There is a 14 day withdrawal period after last use of either valbazen or zimectrin gold. Toss the eggs in the garbage, dont feed them to dogs.
