How do you vacation with all of the animals?

Y'all talk about giving your neighbors eggs....well, give them some CHICKENS, then when they are addicted like us, watch theirs for vacation and have them do the same. Share the love, chicken addictions for the WORLD! We can take over and mandate that everyone have at least 3, and use eggs as monetary issue, instead of spending all that money to make money

WWWHHHOOOOHHHHH, &%#@ you all see what you did to me!

That is a really good point. BC (before chickens) I had horses and dogs, which I still have, I would board the dogs and my mom would feed my horses. My one horse has an excellent knack of getting hurt while I'm in the middle of a vacation. Fortunately, my mom has seen him sound enough to know to call the vet/farrier if there is a problem.

Now that I have a milking doe. I'm not sure how to even go up to see my cows and new calves and get pictures of them.

Is it ok to skip one milking? There's just no way I could drive to S. Georgia and get back in time for the evening milking. Probably get back around 11-12 midnight.

I have a couple of very reliable neighbors. One tended my animals for over a week. He said he would do it free of charge. I left him with my contact info and 50 dollars for emergency supply money although I had just bought two bags of every feed. There is a vet within walking distance of my house and he was instructed to take them there and have them call me incase of medical emergency. I told him all the eggs he collected were his.

I got back the animals were well taken care of. They had gotten out and he put them back up once. He used the good judgment that since it was well under control it was no reason to disturb my vacation. He tried to give me the 50 back and I told him thats yours and I figure I owe you more. He would not take anymore. He said 50 and the 7 dozen eggs he collected were way more payment than he needed. He said he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would do it anytime payed or not. Ofcourse I would always try to get him to take payment.

He has a hurt leg at the moment so I am training another neighbor. The neighbor I am training already does well on all the odd jobs I give him. He will do fine.

vaccation, whats that?? last time i had i day or two off i had my youngest daughter. But my b-I-L got so drunk and ticked his wife off that his wife took off and left his drunk rear end at our house.
In reality we never leave more than two nights. Cats, fish, turtles and snakes can take of them self for that long. I would board a dog, but chicken???

We have great next door neighbors with two girls that know how to care for animals. They feed and clean the horses, feed and water the dogs, and feed and water the chickens (along with egg collecting). They get to keep the eggs they collect (doesn't sound like a big deal but it is to the seven year old

).
I've only had to feed for them one time, but it was for an entire week and one horse had a temp. I had the joy of checking her temp every morning and giving her bute.

What a way to start your day! LOL

lots of people share milking duties with other dairy animal owners and return the favor for them when they travel.

We schedule our trips around the animals. My snakes can last for a while without food, and we take the dogs with us. My goats, ducks, chickens and pigeons are another story. The only overnight trips we really take are camping trips. We go on Friday and come back on Sunday, so I feed Friday morning, make sure there is enough for Saturday and feed on Sunday when we get home. Your best bet would to look for someone to do it before you start planning your trips.
