I've been thinking it worked like blue(Andalusian) as a black diluter but I've been seeing things where it actually works with white instead? I'm so confused right now.

Dun is an incomplete dominant that dilutes black pigment, just like blue. One dose lightens black to a chocolatey color. Two doses to a pale cafe au lait color.

The Dun gene is on the same locus as Dominant White and as such is related to it. Like DW, it only works on black pigments.
