How does one discipline a biting pullet?

The blue orpington rooster Miss Sue gave me attacks me every time I go near him. Today I reprimanded him, hehe!! like that would do anything. I kept pushing him back so i could get the ice out of his water bowl and he kept flogging me and biting my hands and scratching me. Tore my hands and wrists apart, drew blood. I finally picked him up and literally carried him around with me while i fed my other animals, all the while he kept biting my hand if it got close enough. He`s a feisty fellow. hehe!! I have no clue what to do about it, but i love the little guy anyway, nasty or not. well thats my story. If you read in the local paper about a guy and a blue rooster "dukeing it out" in a field, no police,no friends,no referees. just me and rooster fighting. You`ll know it was ME. I hope i win. ouch!! Tony

Yea, I am just glad they are not 2 feet taller, like the dinosaurs of old.
I wouldnt stand a chance!

Really, we have all commented that Lily would be dangerous if we fell down while she was around. She jumped on my head earlier in the week and it was unexpected, and I kind of rolled backward (was already sitting) and the crazy thing came after my face. DH got concerned and chased her off, I have NO idea what she was gonna do but I dont trust her at all. I dont trust any of them around my face, but that chicken would eat me if I passed out or somethin!

IMO, it is a teenage thing.... all of ours have gone through the totally bratty, pecky, mean as all get out stage for a short while right before they start to lay.... then boom, overnight they are as sweet as can be, following us around and coincidentally, they are starting to lay this week. Got 5 eggs today... up from 2. I am sure all that crankiness was just hormonal PES (pre egg syndrome

Youre probably right, Jeauca

She has to be getting close. I remember my EE went nuts for over 3 weeks, she never pecked ME, but she was meaner than snot to her buddy, and flighty and neurotic, you name it.

I think Cyn said her sibling started at 21 1/2 weeks, and Lily is like 20 weeks tomorrow. So she is definitely hormonal. Tonite, she was as sweet as can be, I held my hand down out to her several times and she didnt try to peck me. She is just a nut. And at least she doesnt beat up on Dash. Its so funny Dash has a temper. Anyone ever have a chicken with a temper before? Its too cute.

Well, it that is the case then it will come to a complete halt here very quickly and she will be back to her sweet self in no time. Hopefully she will start laying here very quickly and be done with all the hormone spurts!!!

She has never been "sweet". If she turns sweet I will really start to wonder.

Sorry, not making fun, I was just laughing so hard, cuz Lily has been a terror from day one, just not a BITING terror... lol I really thought about naming her "Atilla" after abut the third day of hatching....

Let me tell you about Lily. You probably have read stories of Lily and Dash, Dash is the little bantam showgirl that hatched 2 days after Lily.

Well, lately, Lily has taken to "charging" my big girls, then she runs away and hides BEHIND Dash. Poor lil Dash just trembles when it comes to my older girls. So today she did it again. Everything was peaceful, I went to wash out the lil girls food dish, then I heard this chicken scream. I have no idea who it was, but I found Dash trembling in the living room (with terror poop on the floor ARGH!), Red wanting to get Dash but knowing the living room is "off limits" and Lily on top of my clean clothes I had laid out on the kitchen chair to put on this morning, of course they werent clean anymore! This is a typical day with Lily. She is like cleaning up after a St Bernard.

I think Suz may be right. Hang in there until she starts laying, and if she is still ornery and going after you, I would start defending myself with a lightweight flyswatter.

that she mellows out real soon!

I agree , mine peck at me sometimes if they think i am ignoreing them. They only have two feet and a beak to explore their world with. Maybe she is trying to make sence of a big featherless chicken that changes colors daily or you could have a speck of something on your clothes she's interested in. I doubt she is trying to hurt you. Just stick your hand under a setting hen and learn what they do when they want to hurt us.
