How does ordering work?

So is there much of a difference (with standard sized chickens) in ordering from MPC vs Meyer? Since they are shipped from OH and I am in PA, I will likely use one to get my first chicks.

I believe they are the same stock, shipped from the same place. I think MPC gets the eggs from Meyers and they do their own hatching. My Pet Chicken began as the first place you could order smaller numbers of chicks from. Meyers now does it too, as well as other hatcheries. Before MPC you needed to order 25 chicks. I personally choose to remain loyal to MPC as they have always treated me right. I haven't dealt with Meyers so I can't comment on them.

All I can say about ordering bantams online comes from Ideal Poultry of Texas. The price was right, though they were straight run only, my birds all arrived alive, all were healthy and beautiful— but of 20 babies I only received 3 pullets and have kept a single of the 17 males sent to me. Part of me wishes I had paid extra for MPC sexed birds, because I had to buy and brood a second lot of chicks just to have enough girls. As luck would have it from a local hatchery chick day sale, I picked 10 females of 13 chicks.

I was just about to mention Ideal Poultry.
I use them for "regular" size chickens so I am not sure about if they sex bantams or not.

Yes, there are only certain breeds Cackle will sex, and the shipping is enormous! I certainly don't have room for 15 chicks, so I did go to FB and find local breeders. I have already chatted with them on Messenger, and there are three places I can get chicks from when I'm ready, pick out my own, and I won't have to pay that horrible shipping! Between the three breeders, there are frizzles, cochins, silkies and bantam rocks that will be available in February, which is when I'm going to get them. Thanks for all the help!

Make sure you Have Corid on had before you get your chicks.
Getting from 3 different locations you are bound to start with Coccidiosis.
Good luck.

If you have a Tractor supply store near you they will get chicks in. Early spring and a lot of times they have chicks that are already sexed. And the cost is better and you can look at them to see if they are healthy before you buy them. They do get bantams but I cannot recall if they are sexed. But you can usually place a chick order through them and then you don't have to pay for the shipping, you just pick them up.

This is Marcy a light brahma from MyPetChicken. I ordered 5 light brahma pullets and Marcy turned out to be a rooster. I had to rehome him after my neighbors complained as I’m not allowed to have a rooster in my town. People would stop in front of our backyard and comment on how beautiful he was. I’m getting 6 new female chicks from MPC this March. I plan on placing my order in January.

Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback. I've heard a lot of good things about MPC customer service.

I have a local TSC, but I've read posts about not only sexing errors but people getting the wrong breeds. I'll have to do a bit more poking around.

[Seaecho, sorry for sticking my 'beak' in and kinda hijacking your post!]

Well. I got my lovely box of chicks Wednesday afternoon. All looked great. Then last night I noticed one not looking good and thought maybe she needed to rest. Checked on her this morning and she was worse. I called MPC and they helped me with some ideas on perking her up. Offered a refund because they thought it was wry neck. I went to the store to get some things and came back to her dead. I’m so sad. They had emailed me some more information and really have great customer service.
