How does this sound for compensation *small update

Kipepo's first posting about this incident said the dogs lived about a mile away. If I were Kipepo I wouldn't expect dogs living that far away to be a threat to my chickens, though I still wouldn't leave them out if I were away. Likewise, if I were the dogs' owner and they hadn't killed animals before I would think I were living too far from Kipepo for my dogs to be a threat. The dogs' owners clearly are responsible, because they owned the dogs. But they might not have been the kind of negligent pus blisters who let their dogs run loose when they have neighbors are right next door. Just sayin...

Would it be a good idea for Kipepeo to include an itemized list with the letter to the dog owners, rather than just naming a lump sum? It might bring home to them how much work goes into raising chickens.

I don't think the dog owners will pay over a grand for compensation.

When my dog was attacked by a loose husky last winter the medical bill was close to $400,and this was with my doing some home medical care.I was thankful they paid the bill, but did not expect them too. I hope you get some money without having to go to court. Next time I see that dog I will take care of it now that I know it is aggresive.

I recommend taking care of the dogs to others if talking with the owners fails to resolve the problem.Good luck!

I am sorry for you loss of birds. I am thinking though that you can expect to only collect replacement costs for your birds. Nothing to back that up with except thinking I read it somewhere many moons ago.
Good luck in resolving this issue.

Well, my court filing and Sheriff fees weren't quite as high, but the judge found in my favor and granted me over $1000 plus court costs. I had all of my documentation for value (quotes from breeders, hatcheries and eggbid), witness statements, etc. and the judge was satisfied.

SSS is not a BYC approved method, I prefer to deliver the dog back to the owner, less work, and word will get out not to let dogs run free.

I wish it worked that way in my world!

When the chicken killing dogs are in compliance with "BYC approved methods", then it is time to use "BYC approved methods. Until the dogs get the memo, they should be dealt with by any means neccesary to protect your flock.

Is it legal to discharge a firearm like that where you live?
