Recent chicken farmer here at Quarter Acre Farm. We have 4 Rhode Island Reds: Flo, Gertrude, Wanda Tanglefoot, and Joyce. Flo has a floppy comb, Gertrude is the mother hen, Wanda wanders and has backward toes on each foot, and Joyce, named after my wife, is the first in bed every time.
Biggest challenge was to keep the cluckers in my yard! I bought a lot of chicken wire, but finally got the job done. They have a luxuriously large section to roam, about half the yard. We get 3 eggs a day regularly, and think one may not be laying yet. They are all poulets. We think the one not laying is Wanda, and maybe that's why she wanda's so much; kind of a prepubescent thing maybe.
Well, anyway, we're pretty laid back here at Quarter Acre Farm, and glad to be a BYC member!
