How far along do you think? Mama got killed by a raccoon

I'm borrowing an incubator from a friend to finish them off, but I've never incubated before! No clue how far along they are or what to set humidity, etc.

Chicken or duck? If duck, Muscovy, mallard, or cross?

It hard to see the veins in that photo. Your phone camera would be better or small light.

Assuming the air bubble is right, it could be between 16-20 days.

But a better photo could mean those blobs are less baby and more yolk. But the veins look small so probably towards the end of incubation.

If duck, 12+ days is my guess.

Swedish duck! Ill take a better picture after getting the incubator. I know theyre at least over 2.5 weeks

You can keep the humidity lower (45 percent) until one pips internally. Then once you see an internal pip raise the humidity (65) and lock down.

With duck I'm going to guess 14-16. Keep in mind humidity is different than with chickens. I just had some late term Cayuga self-abort and I think at least the second one (day 25!) was because the air bubble wasn't big enough. Could have been something else, like parental nutrition, but I also worry the air bubble wasn't big enough-- so keep track of air sac calendar for mallard ducks.


I have some half Blue Swedish going right now, and depending on how the egg looks allt he way around, it looks like mine roughly day 12-16 (but a better picture could make that a lie

My whole point is that duck eggs seem to stand extra humidity MUCH LESS than chicken eggs. And duck eggs can handle drier incubation conditions, even being a little under-humidified and be off better than chicken eggs being under humidified (at least from what I have read.)

Do you have any idea based on the picture when I should take the turning trays out? I'm thinking Friday?

i've read, for chicken eggs at least, that turning is really most important up to day 14, and after that less of an issue. I don't know if that is true. But a day or two extra probably wouldn't do any harm.
