How far can you go?

This chart shows that you can go a long way. Hope you can see it, I don't remember where it came from:

what is considered brother/sister? boys/girls from the same hatch group? or by actual blood - for sure same dad and mom?

can you breed the boys and girls from the same hatch group? i've never done it, but i'm guessing it would be ok as you're probably not breeding true brothers and sisters. right?

people have to be doing this - - often. right?

Same dad and mom would be the normal meaning of brother and sister, so yes, we mean true brother and sister. Then, of course, there are many half siblings as in the case of one rooster bred to a group of hens so the mothers would be different with the same sire.

do you breed them - the halvies?

Good for your roo! You gotta love those boys that will spit in the eye of adversity. I am still trying to acquire one of those. Defend the girls, but not try to kill me every time I enter the coop.

Why the downsize?

I am down sizing because my coop is too full, theres is a BYCer who is just starting out so I am going to share some of my girls with him, and he is taking our extra roos, I have 2 that are so pretty I haven't been able to tell dh to do the deed, so was thrilled when he said he would take them. Then I'll be ready fo next seasons broodys, them girls love to sit,

Thanks Cynthia for your input, I just didn't know when I should get another roo to keep the genetics safe. Looks like I can wait till my roo goes on before I need to bring in another one.
