How far will a large pekin range? Adopted or dumped?

So I have a lot of birds and a busy life but only 3 white ducks. I may not immediately notice one black or red chicken amiss, but the ducks I only have 9 so it’s easier to keep track. Of the whites, I have one old fellow with a bum foot, one youngster and one call, all drakes. Today I noticed 2 white ducks meandering around the yard and I was like “Wow, Duck duck is really getting around well. He never walks around this much and he looks more comfortable than usual.” Then tonight I go to lock up, and the two white ducks are waddling along...and Duck duck is down at the house! I actually had to question myself... “wait, do I actually have 4 white ducks? No, I’m sure I don’t!” So my flock now appears to include a white pekin hen! I live way out in the boonies on a dead end road. None of my neighbors have ducks that I know of. Do you think someone dumped this duck? How far will a fat pekin range? She walked right into the duck house like she’s always been here. Weird isn’t it???

That's how I got a cat. Just showed up like she lived here, so now she does. I know that's not helpful, but sometimes animals adopt you, rather than you adopting them

Do you have a river or stream near by? I could see a Pekin wandering off pretty far on a stream. I hope no one dropped them off.

There are a couple of ponds and several small creeks...but I have only ever seen Canada geese there. My son has named her Felicia Ducky Momo has accepted her into his harem no questions asked. Or if he did, she had the right answers.

What a sweet story! sounds like if she was dumped she was dumped at the right place.

I also live in the boonies on a dead end road. Unfortunately the lack of traffic seems to make it a prime drop off spot. So glad to hear your new ducky found a happy home. It was meant to be.

I just hope she doesn't have any diseases...otherwise she's welcome to stay. What's one more duck, anyway? Is there any way to age a duck? Not by their teeth, like a horse

Nope and because she is female she'd probably fudge on how old anyway.

Ducks are hardy creatures so if she looks bright eyed and isn't shabby looking she is probably okay plus she has already been in your coop too late now to worry about disease.
