How Far Would You Go?

Hi. I've had some bad luck with shipping chicks. I swore off ordering, but my usual local sources aren't selling live birds this year or have increased their minimum orders beyond what I want. And, of course, I want specific breeds.

So...

How far would you go to pick up birds? There's a farm 3 hours from here...

I think I would be willing to do any trip that could be done in a day. I'd be less inclined to go any farther than that.

I hate driving, so I wouldn't drive myself to pick up birds besides the post office.


But...

if I was stuck in the car with someone willing to drive, probably up to 4 or 5 hours

I've gone 4 hours (there and back) for chicks before.

Absolutely not crazy! I've driven 3 hours for rescue transport legs and 2 day trip (10 hrs each way) to get a dog to a safe foster. Our dog food is also 3 hours away so I make it a fun trip and stop at cool restaurants. My hubs just stopped asking
