How fast do chicks go through a bag of feed?

My flock of 8 consumes 50# in 4 weeks. This is with daily 1/2 hr foraging and a handful of treats. Occasional kitchen scrap.

My 10 Buff Orphingtons chicks, about 10 weeks old, will go through a 20 pound bag of the chick feed in a about a week and a half. I keep the feeder constantly filled not letting it drop down below half. I did change feeders from the type with the twist on bottom and milky colored jug to the tray type feeder which did cut down on waste becasue they had figured out how to untwist the jug from the base somehow.

I've had a 5lb bag for a month now. I just got 3 more chicks five days ago so 6 chicks total and the bag is almost out. The 3 new ones seem to eat more then the first 3. I always make sure the dish has food in it so no one is starving. I also every other day give them some scrambled egg and maybe some ground up oats.

We have and assortment of heavy breeds, 26 have gone through 75lbs in 4 weeks. Some waste.

Yep!!!

Same here!!

I have notice that the type of feeder you use can save on waste!!

I too have switched to the long flat feeder.. the screw type round one allowed lots to go on the floor.....But they do like to scrape around to get it. I also found that tossing some meal worms on the floor will cause the chicks to spend more time looking for food that would be wasted!
