How fast does digestion occur? There's a PEARL EARRING in my Dominique

this thread is fabulous, laughed out loud several times!!

thanks!!!!

....going out now to check on my week old chicks; took out earring first!!!!

i butchered a rooster a few months back and found a glass marble in the gizzard, i suspect you will have to butcher the chicken to get it back.

just FYI I swallowed a needle in home-ec class when I was 12, sewing class went bad. It ended up perforating my small bowel and i got septic. I survived after major surgery. Hope your chickie will be alright.

I worked as an assistant for a dentist for several years. We used to get calls sometimes about people dislodging crowns (caps) and swallowing them. I usually gave them the option of new crown or retrieving the old one and seeing if it still fit properly. They almost always opted for new crowns. This one patient, though, decided he'd retrieve the crown and we'd sterilize and put it back on. I was laughing after I got off the phone and couldn't believe he'd do it. He called back about an hour later and said he just couldn't do it and decided on the new crown..... I'd take a chicken poop pearl earring on my ear over a human poop crown in my mouth any day!!

First just wanted to say I laughed out loud when I read the title of this thread!!!

I bet it will get ground up in the gizzard. Hopefully that post will not hurt her.

I dated my husband for 10 years before he finally proposed...so needless to say when I finally got my ring it was a whopper...and my girls LOVE my diamonds. I will be watching my jewelry MUCH closer after reading this thread LOL!!

This thread has definitely had me laughing! My husband wanted to know what I was laughing at, so I had to read the best parts to him.

It is so interesting that these six chickens we have can make us laugh so loudly and, in the next second, turn concerned. Love, laughter, fret, anxiety, annoyance are all emotions we feel daily with these little growers. We've been fortunate that all six have survived in our care since they were day olds, unfortunate that at least one is an unwanted boy (and unsure about some others), and blessed that they've brought more fun into our lives.
Our Dominique, newly named Pearl, is a great scavenger. It shouldn't surprise us that she is the one to steal an earring from my ear. She makes the most of her situation. And now, no matter what, we'll have to keep her until she comes to pass, to check her GI tract for any remaining remnants of the expensive, beautiful pearl that she decided to ingest at 8 weeks old. Such a funny little girl.
