how good are broody hens when it comes to incubating

How did the chicken make it this far without an incubator? A good hen over any bator, any day.
If you want to see a mean roo put in his place, let him get near mama hens chicks.

Thanks guys! I have a hen trying to hatch a golf club for me out of a golf ball

she is not very determined though... when ever i walk in there she jumps up looking for a treat...

Broodies are the best, however they are a few rules to follow for best hatches. The broodie MUST be along in the pen. You can move her before you put your prize eggs under her. The nest must be the right size and well bedded.
When I was a kid about 50 years ago I hatched Embden geese under broodie Leghorn hens. Four eggs at a time.At that time my dad had a breeder flock of leghorns and we would get quite a few broodies. It was neat to have 4 goslings looking out from under the hen.
