How good are you at estimating how long something will take to do?

I overestimate things whenever I do it right then and underestimate when I've put it off.

ray's two cents :

anyone know much about themes and character relationships in Pride and Prejudice or Much Ado about Nothing? I can't seem to find any notes from the beginning of the year.

Pride and Prejudice is one of my all-time favorite stories! The reason people hate it so is because it makes very little sense when read by modern standards. The focus on being married off properly seems ludicrous, as does the obsession with class structure in general. It must be read in context of the very specific historic period it took place in - the emergence of the monied middle class versus the remnants of the blue-bloods, poor Elizabeth struggling to be an intelligent woman in a society that looked upon women only as decorations, it's full of good stuff!
I could go on and on, but I'm at work...

Ooops - I got sidetracked.
I estimated it would take me a couple of weekends to paint my den. It is now 7 months later, and it's half done.

That is a fairly good estimate of my (in)ability to estimate!

I'm pretty good at estimating how long it should take me to do something. Now, as to actually getting it done in the time I should....well, that's completely different.

I mainly talked about pride, prejudice, and the reasons the girls married for

I did find my notes eventually. Scribbled over four double sided sheets, I thought I was going to collapse!

Managed to sort them into something coherent though. I personally liked Mr. Darcy. He reminds me a little of myself, in some ways.

I bid on government work so I see how long it takes the government workers to do a job and I cut it in half.

Seriously, I am self employed so estimating hours to a job is critical and is something that comes from experience. Keeping track of time or keeping a log will help you out alot.

That is not the reason I personally do not care for her writing.

Having a deep interest and education in anthropology, and being something of a cultural mutt, I'm fairly used to different social and historical contexts.

Hm, now I am pretty skilled at estimating how long it will take me to finish a book I really enjoy. About five weeks. I hate ending a truly enjoyable book, so I simply postpone reading the last chapter. My husband has started to do the same thing. XD

There's one book I could read a million times and still feel like I've never picked it up before. it's complicated like that. Its name is "Tiff and the Trout".
