I've been feeding my goats this hay for about a month and just wondering if it is good at all?
It is from my uncle's farm and he says it is a mix of Orchard grass and rye. There seems to be no weeds in it, just some rye tops. It has been stored in a barn since spring when the farmer that leases cuts it. The farmer cuts before he plants corn, and my uncle gets the hay.
He feeds it to his horses and they are all fine, I just don't know if the same would be good for goats. I was originally paying $4-5 per bale for alphalfa, but this is free and I can take as much as I want. The bales are about 50lbs and the goats are going through half a bale a week free fed.
