How hard is it to let your chickens out of their coop to be in yard?

Oh our GLW are full sized definately, for the bigger eggs...& this coming weekend they'll be 4 months; so they can still fly pretty good for beign about half grown. Our dominique has short wings & she seems to be able to fly straight up on the roost from right underneath it, bout 4.5 ft up, I think she just likes to show off though.
The wyandottes will not be able to fly over a 4 ft fence when full grown, as long as they cannot perch on it. I would think same is true for the doms, though I've never had them. Getting up to the roost is easy because they can hop/fly onto a sturdy perch - that's easier than actually flying over a wire fence.

Yea i knew that once they got full grown they definately weren't gonna be able to jump the wire fence, none of ours have ever tried it so far; granted we have only really clipped Blackie's (dominique) wings once since we've had her in the past year and a few months...I dont' think she's laying eggs anymore either, what do most Dom's eggs look like? Dark brown? And yea I'd hate to go out there one day & one of them tried to fly over the wire fence & kinda didn't make it...don't wanna end up w/a chicken kabob

I have 8 hens so far that free range. But my 2 Americanas can fly! In fact I have one that keeps flying to the roof of our house! I guess I should clip her wings, as we have dogs on either side of us. But she has yet to try to go over the fence.

I live in the city (I have a big yard not completely fenced in) I would love to let them out to feed on bugs/grass or just take a walk. I am nervous about getting them back into there home/coop. A good friend told me they will go back in but still nervous to try. Please let me know your experience and if and how you got them back in.
I let mine out of the run for a half hour in the morning and half hour in the afternoon and i stay with them during that time. Then corral them back in the run. They go in the coop every night on their own, i just close the coop door at night
