How high can a large fowl chicken jump or fly in 3ft?

I leaned a board up to my roost as a ramp while the chicks were little. They ran right up it the first day to check out the highest roost. When they are bigger and I'm confident they can hop/fly up there, the ramp will go away. I just saw the smallest hop up about 2 ft. following the largest, however it took her more than one attempt to be successful.

My birds decided to roost on the 4" fence posts used as rafters in our old coop, 8' in the air! Some fly right up there, and some transition from the 4' high roost bars. It's about social order and flying ability! Mary

Thanks, PirateGirl & Folly's Place. I think I will use a ramp for now while the chicks are still young & I will set the roosts at whatever height is convenient for me (within reason) & I'm sure the chickens will adapt.
