How high should a fence be?

We plan on building a coop in our backyard. Our dog doesn't worry us that much, but we need to be sure the chickens don't escape the run, or they're dead. We intend to get Rhode Island Reds. How high should we make the run's fence (the chickens will have the wing clipped)? Chain link is out of the question.

My hens have a secure coop and roofed-over run with hardware cloth, etc. During the day, they go out into a large (50 x 80 ft) yard with a 5 foot chain link fence around it. In two years, none has ever flown out. Their wings are not clipped. I have all different heavy breeds, including some Rhode Island Reds. I won't say they CAN'T fly out, but they never have.

Thanks, but it turns out the info wasn't needed after all! The design we settled on is portable and has a built-in run on the bottom. Thanks again, though.
