Can ducks overheat like chooks? I'm in Australia, so obviously the opposite to most of you with temperatures, lol. We've had temps around 42-46C (I think this is about 110-120f?) all week and more predicted for at least another week. My muscovies have our large pool, a kiddy wading pool and lots of shade, but the heat is still overwhelming. Will they cool themselves off with swimming and drinking enough? My little one is only a couple of months old and doesn't have flight feathers yet, so she (little sumo is actually a girl) and can't get into the pool with the 2 larger ones so she just has the wading pool and the rest of the yard with trees, their pen, and wherever else she wanders to.

I wanna build a snowman... doesn't have to be a snowman... :th

Have you ever built a snowman in AU? If you have time come here we still have snow on the ground from a week ago this past Friday. I am ready for it to go.

As long as your ducks have plenty of shade and water they should be fine after all they are from South America originally. You can also put electrolytes in their drinking water or ACV 1 Tab to 1 gal of water that is suppose to help keep them hydrated also.

The frozen watermelon idea is brilliant! Thank you! I bought some just yesterday for the humans to cool down with. I'll chuck some in the freezer for the duckies. And peas, too.

I'll have to get to the produce shop before the Xmas shutdown and get some electrolyte additive. I've also been meaning to check their feed has everything they need.

Thanks guys :)
