How I got rid of our moles. Updated with pics page 2.

Can you post a pic of a glue nail before you use it, after you glue it up? I'm wondering if this method would also work on mice that won't go on the actual traps, but I could set those nails across paths that they usually use. I bet it would slow down mice too. THANKS for the idea! Plus, it makes those glue traps last for a really long time instead of just one mouse or MAYBE two.

sounds awesome !

I am going right to the store for glue traps !
I also will never again put poison on my yard, the hens will eat it !
They love the big nighcrawler worms and grubs just like Mr Mole does.
Also, grub and insect poison is really expensive and can harm beneficial insects too !
I will let you know if this method likks my mole problem.

I would not use this method on mice, you really do not want roofing nails lying about the yard.

They are the ultimate step-on-nail and the perfect pop-your-tire nail as they can stand up on their large flat 'heads' and waite patiently for someone to come along and step right on them.
You really do not want them anywhere in your yard, unless underground, way underground.

I can not wait to try this out. I have tried everything minus the poisoning the whole yard. Genius pure genius! I had even offered 20 bucks for every dead mole at one time. And sitting out there wee hours of the morning with a shot gun got old quick. Thank you! I will let you know how it works out!

Thanks for all the positive comments. Per request, I took a few photos today.

Here is the brand of trap that I used. These traps have a nice thick layer of glue.

The nail (excuse my dirty hands, I had just unhooked a trailer).

Just stick the nail head into the glue, turn the nail to cover the head and nail shaft.

The finished product. Just open a small hole in the mole mound or tunnel, drop it in, and cover the hole. I use the sharp end of a tire iron to create the perfect sized hole.

I hope everyone that tries this has as much success as I have.

Letisha, looks like you're my neighbor. I'm in Readyville

Onthespot, this may work on mice, but I wouldn't use nails. The good thing about using this on moles, is that the nails are in the tunnel where only the moles can get them (also wouldn't recommend this method if you have dogs or other animal that may dig them up).

flyweed, it really isn't that messy. Just be careful not to get the glue too far up the nail shaft. As long as you don't get glue on your fingers, it isn't messy at all. I'm sure your method is very good in certain situations, but I have a huge yard that I'd have to treat. With this method, I can just target the active mole tunnels.

Good luck, all.

I had 3 acres of hillside dozed last week and while sewing the grass send discovered 4 dead moles. I am sure there are more and had a bad problem last year. My hubby is deployed to Iraq so it is just me here trying to fix the problem. And I am at my wits end. I have wasted so much money on other remedies and honestly was fed up. That is why I offered my very busy uncle 20 bucks a mole. Once I get over the newness of my baby silkies I will give this a go. Right now I am too busy trying to build a coop. Thank you so much for posting this who would have thought I would have found this solution on a chicken board.

instead of buying glue traps just to get the glue on the nails dont they sell really sticky stuf to put on the fake apples in a orchard?

Yeah, I think that would be a good idea, but I don't think anyone around here carries just the glue. I searched online, and did find one provider that sells only the glue, but it comes in 1 gallon buckets. That would definitely catch a lot of moles.
