How I process Quail... My 6yr old helped... WARNING: Graphic Pics

When my niece was young, she insisted on naming any animal I raised and butchered. If they didn't have a name, she felt that they were 'nobodies'. Animals that had names were respected and remembered and honored as we consumed their meat. It gave me a different perspective for sure.

Thanks for your instructions, i've just incubated some quail eggs now, only 1 hatched from my last batch last week and i did the same as that other chap, opened the unhatched egg to see how it was, bit nasty to see a half formed one but i assume thats partially due to my loss of potential egg-layers? (can you believe malaysians boil the incubated egg at day 10 and eat it what)
i want my ratio to be 3 females to one male so i will be culling and theres no point culling if you're not going to process, anyone who feels funny about doing this really needs to stop watching disney because it's the media that makes us believe that theres something 'unnatural' about this process. I know my first time will be difficult but I will do it, its an extremely valuable life skill and a great source of natural organic free range chicken

Actually, I was kind of surprised how MUCH it had for being such a tiny bird. When I had pet budgies I always used to joke that they weren't even half of a buffalo wing

Agree completely, everyone who eats meat should be aware of how much goes into "making meat". There's a vid on youtube of a guy skinning a chicken and he makes a dead on comment about how much work it takes for a person AND the bird to make one little chicken wing, and what a big travesty it is to order 5 buffalo wings and only eat one of them and toss the rest in the trash. There should be a major shame attached to wasting meat products. In corporate run farms and supermarket meat especially. Now that I've killed and processed my own birds don't think I can any longer live with having the sorry existence of those animals in cramped quarters and corn fed lives meaning nothing.

Bravo!! Not only have you wonderfully provided great food for your family, but include your little girl...I think this Is the most inspiring thing I have seen in a long time. Great food, great values, great little girl...you should be very proud of yourself for what you have accomplished.....thank you....

Until tonight, I had never even looked at raising quail, now I am looking for a breeder! Interesting! I like a dark meat fowl, and will likely be trying this very soon. You have a very bright little girl. I commend her for being so brave. Thanks very much for sharing this, and your daughter is fortunate that you care enough to teach her such an important skill. You are a fantastic mom and caring person
