How important are roosts?

I am going to be building a tractor for my backyard chickens, yet to be purchased and I am trying to use things around the house to save $$$ and be greener.

I have been looking at some of the European tractor designs and I don't see where they have room for roosts.

I have a cabinet I have been thinking of using. It would be easy to clean, I can put it on stilts and enclose the bottom easily. I have a smaller cabinet I can use for an outside nest box but there really wouldn't be room for roosting according the the 12 inches from the floor, 14 inches from the ceiling rule. I can't see where every design has roost room.

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Can you give them roosts in their run?? It really depends on the breed, because a few don't really roost... but most of them do... they like to sleep that way, so I'd say it's pretty important. If you only have a few chickens, you could try to squeeze in a small roost maybe??

If you don't give them one though, they'll roost on top of their food, water, nest boxes, or anything else, creating a poo problem around where they eat and nest
