How Is Cackle Hatchery

I just received my order from cackle. I ordered a couple of weeks ago for an ASAP order of Brahmas, EE's and Wyandottes- 15 total. I did have some issues when I realized they marked a different breed then Brahmas. They told me I would need to wait longer because of their mistake but they put me through to the shipping dept. and they told me they would ship just two days later. They were very friendly on the phone ( call in the am- I think they make their calls in the afternoon and the phone is always busy) I just got my order this morning. All look healthy and they are eating and drinking just fine. I even got an extra "packing peanut" I can;t tell for sure but it seems to be either a Wyandotte or brahma like I ordered. YAY! I can start all over again since my coyote massacare. I would recommend Cackle!

I can't order from Cackle - it doesn't test for MG (a disease) so Virginia won't allow any birds from that hatchery into the state.

I wanted the Hatchery Surprise.

I've ordered from Cackle twice, and received a third shipment "free". I live within a 2 hour drive of them, but for the first batch I had the chicks shipped to me. Unfortunately, a couple of the chicks arrived dead, and several more died within 2-3 days. The birds struggled and did not thrive. They required a lot of attention and help, but did finally make it to adulthood. That batch consisted of 30 chicks, with a mix of standard (RIR, BO's) & banty's (silikies, mille fleurs).

Cackle staff were so friendly and helpful when I placed the original order, and when I called back regarding the dead chicks that arrived in shipment, that I later placed a second order with them.

In the second order I needed specific breeds & sexes of birds. Instead of having the chicks shiped we picked up the chicks at the Hatchery. I'm not quite sure what happened, but things did not turn out well. The splash cochins all ended up being gray silkies. The female white rocks turned out to be roosters, and the white silkies ended up being buff (one "white" silkie has a solid gray head, yellow neck/breast, and white leg & feet feathers - he answers to Neopolitan!).

Again, they were very friendly and helpful when I called back to report the mix-up in the 2nd order, and they cheerfully sent me a 3rd order free. Once again several chicks arrived dead in the shipment, and I had several more die within hours of arriving. Our mail carrier is a family friend, so we know that once he receives the chicks they are well handled until they reach *home*. I've raised chickens for years and have a nursery set up for new babies. I also make sure I'm home the day the chicks are to arrive so I can ensure they immediately receive fresh water, feed and warmth.

I've ordered chicks from other hatcheries like McMurray and Ideal Poultry and seem to have had better luck from them.

Cackle, while they are kind of hard to reach via phone, they have always been extremely & friendly, and they seem to try very hard to make things right. Maybe I've just been one of the few unlucky ones.

I had terrible luck with them. They delayed shipping. Chicks all dies within 3 days. I lost a lot of money. Other chicks arriving at same time or hatched at same time did great. Never could get them to return emails or calls.

I just got through a moment ago. I had to hit redial like a dozen times. The girl was super helpful and friendly. Amazing since it seemed like total chaos going on in the back ground. Anywho, I had a weird auto message come to me after doing my order on-line. I called and got it all straightened out. I tell you though, next time, I will order by phone. It takes a lot less time that way. They have to down load the info from the website weekly and then enter all the orders by hand!!!

You'd think they'd find a better way!
