The heat is supposed to break here tomorrow. Whee!

Hubby is gone for a week to visit his dad and brother. I'm not going because of the chicks, but that's ok. I won't mind having the house to myself for a week. Semi-whee.

Steamed garlic scapes are AWESOME! Like garlicy green beans, but a little crisper texture. Whee!

The chickies are doing well. Gonna go have some momma chickie love time now.

Sometimes that can be a vacation in itself.

Yes, sometimes we all seem to forget. There used to be an old saying that those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stone's at other people's window's.

and 3 fingers pointing back at you and splinter in the eye and beam in your own... do unto others... sooo true!!! It is hard to stay calm and true with so much negativity and fabrications about. My DH and I were talking about it on the drive this morning. People used to have to work hard for food and shelter, now look at us.... seems like we went a bit too far awhile back.

I try to stay away from negative people. I like to stay as positive as possible. Negativity causes stress, and I prefer not to have that in my life.

I think that you forgot to share and send some of that rain over here to me. It is so hot and dry. We are expecting temp's of 118-F next week.

My daughter and family live Peoria. I am so sorry... that is so unreasonably hot. How do your chooks survive? Mine suffer big time with 90 and humidity. I hate losing my chooks to the heart.

I try to be as attentive as I can when it's that hot. I make sure that there are many different water spots, plus bigger container's of water that they can stand in if they want to. I clean out the empty cottage cheese container's to put water in for the freezer for the water containers. It makes a decent sized chunk of ice in those. I just hope that none of my girl's decide to go broody now, because I will have to break them of it.

I like the Naked Neck chicken's, because they have less feathering to have deal with in the heat. The bigger fluffier breed's seem to have a harder time dealing with it.

@BlueBaby How about using a fan out in your coop for your birds? I know a fan isn't an answer for the extreme hot heat, but I have noticed that our birds seem to like the fan blowing on them.

As hot as it is here now, all a fan would do is blow the hot air around. When I come in the house from out there I have to drink some cold Gatorade and cool off in the air condition between trip's outside. I put up mister's before, but all of the dampness caused even more flies.

Do you guys use any supplements or topical dressings? We have had some issues in the past with our horses feet so started adding supplements and topical dressings that have done wonders. Very impressed with the turn around.

As much as you hatch, important as it is to you, as heart breaking a hatch rate as you may have just gotten (just catching up on posts) you totally need and deserve a new one. It is not like this is some fly by night obsession, you have been at it for awhile and an incubator is your tool. You can also sell chicks and make your $$ back.
Then use your old one as the back up...

Understandable, forgot about those darn flies! Gatorade is a must here also, we buy the G2 low sugar grape favor in the small container that will make 6 gallons. When a persons sweats that much in the heat water just don't put back the electrolytes a person needs.

As brutal of a heat that's coming, I think that I will have to put the mister's back out there and just have to deal with all the flies. I don't want the flock dieing from the heat. I'm getting it ready now, had to soak those little nozzle thing's in some CLR. Also had to replace the battery in the timer for it.
