How late in the year can you order chicks, and be safe doing it?

My chicken house is coming slow but sure, but I won't be able to probably order chicks for another month . . .then keeping them inside for several weeks? . . .is the heat during shipping as dangerous as the cold?

Quote:No it's not. Day old chicks need to be warmed to about 95 degrees, and that is near impossible in winter months. They really only need to be inside for about 8 weeks, then you can move them to a brooder close to the coop as long as they are inside, such as a hen house, with their lamp. This makes integration much easier!!
