How late in the year can you order chicks, and be safe doing it?

My chicken house is coming slow but sure, but I won't be able to probably order chicks for another month . . .then keeping them inside for several weeks? . . .is the heat during shipping as dangerous as the cold?

No it's not. Day old chicks need to be warmed to about 95 degrees, and that is near impossible in winter months. They really only need to be inside for about 8 weeks, then you can move them to a brooder close to the coop as long as they are inside, such as a hen house, with their lamp. This makes integration much easier!!
