if you can get the price of other QUALITY chicken out there you can make some money. If you sell at the price of bargain basement wallyworld chicken you will lose. It all comes down to "Are your people willing to pay for the quality?"

They are willing to pay $7 for swap meet roosters. I think I could ask more for quality birds and get it.

I sold all of my birds last time, but I had them processed at a USDA inspected plant. I ended up with 42 sold them for 2.50-$3 a lb and I made money on them even with the feed and $2.70 processing fee. Flock Raiser is $14.00 a bag here, I had them processed at 7.5 weeks old, they weighted on average 4lb processed. I don't know if that will help or not.

There is nowhere around here, near me or within an hours drive, that processes birds. So the only option I have is to process them myself. But I have had plenty of people say that they would like to be here and help (on processing day) so that they can watch and learn on how to butcher, pluck and process and chicken.

How late in the year before it's too cold to have them shipped, though? I'd be shipping them from PA (JM Hatchery) to upstate NY.

Slightly Cracked ~~ I am glad to hear that you are gonna get you some birds. I would order them ASAP if I were you due to the fact that shipping may go up and you want to processs them before the air is dead cold.

We will be processing our on Nov. 22 (weather permitting)
