How long before egg starts developing?

This feels like a really stupid question but I’m scared. This is my first time hatching eggs. I have a broody hen who’s been sitting on 12 eggs and we don’t want any more so we marked them. I’m trying to check for any unmarked eggs twice a day but haven’t been able to go this often. I just collected one not to long ago and it was extremely warm. Every time I look up my question on google it just tells me eggs hatch in 20 days. My question is how long is it before it’s probably too late to collect the egg meaning the chick is starting to develop?

Welcome to BYC. If you collect on the same day the egg is laid you should be ok. Usually about the second day you’ll see a blood spot and maybe the start of veins.
