how long before fertile eggs

I got me a rooster about 6 weeks ago. I have 5 hens
I seen him mount one of my hens about a week ago but I usually aint here and don't know how often he is mating hens.
I want to get an incubator and hatch some chicks. do you think its to early or you think my eggs are fertile? thanks

Check your next egg... if it's fertile the rest should be also.

It doesn't take long at all for a rooster to get around to fertilizing eggs, and eggs should be fertile for up to two weeks after mating. I'd be very surprised if they weren't viable by now. Next time you open an egg, check for a bullseye.

Generally speaking the 1st fertile eggs will be produced 48 to 72 hours after the 1st successful mating. However mounting does not always equal meeting especially if he is just figuring out what hes doing and the hens are still working out their cooperation. The simplest solution is either to crack a few eggs laid recently and examine the blastodisc for signs of fertility or incubate a few of the eggs and candle at 7 days to see if they are developing

ok thanks I will check egg in morning for a bulls eye but do not know exactly what I'm looking for. going this weekend to get the little giant incubator from tractor supply. started collecting eggs for hatch today will collect for 7 to 8 days. hope it goes well.

You can always take pics and post them, we love a good game of fertile or not around here. Don't be afraid to handle and manipulate the yolk if need be to expose the spot

ok will look for it never noticed any white spot before but again wasn't looking. Interseting

ok couldn't wait curiosty getting best of me just cracked open three eggs white speck on 1 no bulls eye and the other two did not see anything. thinking I should wait longer before incubating. maybe I wont have easter chicks
