How long before they lay?

My 20 week old pullets are aquatting for me.
Today, I found my rir prowling rhe nest box-i added fresh hay. She never left box-just kept rearranging hay.
Now she's just sitting there.
She's been in therex1 1/2 hours and sitting last 30 minutes.
What's going on?

Looks like it could be any day now.
My pullets tend to rearrange nest material and hang out in the nests for about a week before they actually lay.

But over an hour at a time? I guess that's what I questioning-the length of time she's in there-just sitting.
Almost 2 hrs....

I have some hens that I think could probably read a short novel with all the time they spend on the nest. I also have a hen that takes no more than 5 minutes in the nest box each day. The pullets and the older hens seem to take the longest in my flock.

I have yet to try this but a friend who has raised chickens for years said there is a trick when it’s time to start laying. She said to add some smashed up cat food to their feed. She swears the protein boost will do the trick at getting them to start.

Like I said, I haven’t tried it but she is way more knowledgeable than me.

VERY possible.
The chickens got into yard the last 2 days and emptied the kittens feed bowl. So they got kitten chow the last 2 days for sure.
