How long between pip and zip? Getting worried!!!! ***UPDATE***HATCHING

I have a couple of eggs which pipped this morning and since then nothing! I can see the chicks moving but nothing is happening. What should I do? How long before I go hands on? I'm a first time chicken daddy and am a little anxious!! Lol Any advice please to calm the nerves! I don't want to loose any chicks after coming this far!! Thank you!!

Question when they pip though part of the shell come off but the membrane is not broken Is this normal? and no action after for hours?

Yeah, they do that. The internal membrane is probably broken by now -which lets them breathe and begin chirping- but sometimes they don't break the outer membrane when they begin to pip externally. Doing nothing for four hours or longer is also normal at that stage, as they rest and wait for their external blood vessels to shut down and their yolk sac to be pulled into their bodies - if they hatch before this is done there would be a lot of bleeding and a higher risk of infection from the exposed yolk sac.

The membrane has gone yellow brown colour that not right is it that means it has gone dry, what best thing to do?

If you're very worried about it sticking you can increase the humidity and/or dab water on it with a cloth or something.
Weirdly enough, for years I'd been following the instructions given with incubators and ending up with a bunch of dead chicks.. Then I tried no water in the incubator until the end, and then a little water, and my chicks are mostly fine. Hatching eggs seems to be a lot of trial and error, and different things seem to work for different people.
If your chicks go more than a day to three days without hatching you will probably have to help them out, especially for the later days or if they seem stuck or more distressed than they should be.

I think i messed with the humidity when i took a hatched chick out....niw the others 4 if them seem to have their membranes drying out and not moving...1 is still moving but no real progress and dry yellow brown on his pip hole...help!
