how long can a broody hen be off her eggs?

That is great! It means you won't have to wait too long either. Post how it all goes. :):thumbsup

Yay! I don't know if it was because I didn't have a bright light or what, but I couldn't make out the chicks' bodies. One side of the egg was just darker. I also saw no movement. But I could definitely see the blood vessels clearly.

I will for sure let you all know :)

Mine felt cold to the touch several times, even yesterday, and today one hatched and the other has pipped. :)

I have a broody sitting at present. She gets off once or twice a day, but I have candled, and there is plenty of action in the eggs. Also I had to take her out of her coop. One hen was throwing her out, and though she got most of them under her again one did get broken. She is in a vacant horse stall now, just moved nest and all with her in it. She didn't mind, and is peaceful now without the others. Her nest is an old puppy crate so I lock her in at night because of snakes mainly. As she has snake proof wire in her fence. Henrietta's is a white Wyandotte. I have everyone's eggs under her so it will be interesting. She had 8 but now 7 with the one broken.:( Hoping she has a good hatch as she is a fantastic broody. :jumpy

It may depend on your broody. I've heard some people say yes, some say they'll try to move the good eggs away from a rotten or broken one, & others say that their hens will sit on all eggs, no matter what, until they hatch out .... & as soon as they hatch they'll leave the other eggs high & dry, even if they shouldn't! Every broody will be different.

Congratulations! I'm just getting started with the whole broodiness and my broody hen went in the wrong nest for about 3 or 4 hours, leaving her eggs cool. I have read what other people say, but I'm still worried they won't hatch. I'm new to this so, please reply.

did they hatch?
