We just got back from vacation and had a responsible adult watching our chickens, they are free range and are let out of their coop in the am and locked back up at dusk. When we got back from vacation our keeper told us a chicken was missing. In the past we've lost an occasional chicken to a fox or coyote so we thought that's what happened. Well, not so fast~ today my husband was feeding the horses and moved a bale of hay and there was the missing chicken! She was of course, very weak & thirsty.
We put her in the chicken hospital (portable dog kennel) and gave her food and water, she looks quite tired and has lost a little weight. I was wondering if anyone knows about how long chickens can make it with no water. Temps here have been in the 70s-high 80's. Thank goodness!
