I have to take my eggs all the way to the laundry room to get a place dark enough to candle. How long can they be out of the bator and still be ok? I do it really quickly, but I worried that it might be too long

A hen will get off her nest to eat and what not during the day so I have never been concerned about the time that it takes to candel. I have seen my hen be off the nest for up to 45 minutes during the day.

Don't worry too much. Just don't waste alot of time, but on the other hand, dont hurry so much that you drop an egg! My hen also got off for almost an hour and the babies hatched just fine.
